Happy Haunting!

Bwahahaha! Happy Halloween! The wind is howling and the leaves are dancing to an unheard melody down the street. It's almost the witching hour, are you ready? I'm preparing to send my flying monkeys out into the night to do my bidding...O.K., really my motivation is CANDY! Send my children out to neighbors houses to bring home goodies for mom. It's the most wonderful night of the year!!! Dibs on the Almond Joy! Bwahahaha!

F.O.T.D. (find of the day!)

Salvation Army comes through again! Find of the day...funky armoire! I've been looking for a storage solution for my crap room, and today i found it. I think it must have been a child's armoire from the size of it. My sweet man and i dragged her in the house, bumped her down the stairs and showed her to her new room. It's hard to tell from the picture, but she's bright red. I can't wait to get her out of those carnival rags and into something dreamy and creamy, polish up her mirrors and add some glitzy new hardware. Great fall project! For some reason iphoto keeps turning my picture on it's side. Just tilt your head to the right and imagine...How was your day?

"Housekeeping Made Easy"

This morning i ran over to Sal's to drop off donations. I couldn't leave without a quick peek inside. Of course i found some treasures...a small milk glass egg cup, a sweet little tea cup, cute bird cage, black dress for Ms.A's vampire costume and this helpful book. It's from 1943 and called" Housekeeping Made Easy" Here are some of the gems i found inside: "Bathtubs can be cleaned beautifully with cleanser mixed with a little benzine or gasoline" yeah, gasoline. This one is really sweet, "Put a drop of your favorite perfume in your personal ink bottle or fountain pen. It gives a delightful scent when the letter is opened" Awww. And then there's this, "When your daughter's rubbers are too short for her, make sandals of them like those mother wears." Okie dokie. My favorite ones are the beauty tips, "To clean gold teeth, scour with prepared chalk, and polish with a piece of linen" Yup, got to keep my gold toof shiny! It's amazing how many of the tips really are still good idea's and some are just weird! How was your day?

Happy Gaia Friday!

In the tradition of Gaia Fridays it's time to craft! Today while i waited for an installer to put in our new dish washer drawers (very cool by the way!) i put the vinyl rub-ons that i picked up at homegoods last week on Ms. A's wall. They were super easy and fun to do. Check out the before and after pics. Cute, huh? I also sewed up two little pillows. I love the look of burlap, so i stamped with fabric paint on the burlap then sewed these two little sweeties together. I love how they turned out. I would whip up a few more but maybe you can have too much of a good thing...nah! How was your Gaia Friday?

Autumn Blues

This is usually my favorite time of year. For some reason i've got the Autumn blues. It's been rainy and cold outside, not much of a chance for an Indian summer. I don't even have pumpkins yet, for goodness sake! I think it hit when i realized that with both girls in Middle School this year that there is no need for my room mothering duties, no classroom parties to plan, no school costume parade, not even an orange cupcake to bake! Oy! That's it, i don't have the Autumn blues, i have the post-elementary school blues! It would look pretty pathetic loitering outside the elementary school with a tray of Halloween cupcakes! I'd probably end up on some watch list! Maybe my poor me party is a result of polishing off half a bag of hershey kisses. Blame it on low blood sugar! The trees have taken a brighter turn over the past 48 hours. I think i'm next : ) Check out fall in Michigan from my back yard. How was your day?

On The Nightstand( next to the chap stick)

I just finished a lovely book by Kate Morton called, "The Forgotten Garden". I'm a big fan of historical fiction and this one fits the bill. There is even a reference to a 'Mrs. Hodgson Burnett' which can only make one think of the beloved children's story, "The Secret Garden"( my first true book love) I can't wait to see what else Ms. Morton has written. What's on your nightstand?

Happy Haunting!

"From ghoulies and ghosties, and long leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night,Good Lord, deliver us"- Scottish

Welcome my pretties! I've been polishing my cauldron and waxing my broom in anticipation of A Hauntingly Magical Celebration! I've called on a few of my sweetest spirit friends to join in the mischief!

Even the tinyest of goulies are here to help!
Thanks for flying by!

She's big, she's beautiful and she's mine.

Happy Gaia friday! I had the loveliest surprise visit from my bff Marilynn this morning. We spent the better part of the morning catching up and general girly chitchatting. We took a stroll through the aisles of Homegoods and found temptations at every turn. I found vinyl wall rub-ons for Ms. A's room in the shape of a branch (i'll share pictures later) and one in the shape of a chandelier for my crap er...craft room. You just can't go wrong there. After we went on our own merry ways, i stopped at an estate sale and snagged this big beauty. She's about 12 inches tall and almost as wide. Can't wait to fill her with fall flowers! Well, i've got to organize my photo's and such for the Halloween blog hop over at A fanciful Twist. Should be fun! Come check it out! Bwahhahhahhh! How was your day?

Beets gone bad

All summer i've been working my little vegetable box, protecting it from rabbits, ground hogs and dogs. I have a real love hate relationship with the rabbits. They're so cute with their big eyes and long ears...bunny love. That all ends when they use my vegetable box as a resort! Some little fuzzy friend made the coziest nest in the carrot row, and then helped themselves to the beet buffet. The baby pumpkin vines and scallions took a hit (bite) too. When they checked out i was left with two beets and a nicely thinned out garden. I planted the beets at my sweet mans request so the two that were left got special care. Where did i go wrong? When i dug them up this morning, this is what i found.Ugh! They have rickets! Not sure what happened there. The carrots look yummy though and i'll make glazed carrots for dinner tonight. Tomatoes are ever faithful as is the basil. We never get tired of sliced tomatoes with basil and mozzarella. Now i'm hungry. How was your day?

Can you say ba-ling?

I just couldn't help myself! These little guys were already cute but isn't everything just a little better with glitter??? I'd like to find some brown glitter a bling a few more. Why not? I found this cake pedestal at Sals (Salvation Army) but didn't see the huge chip until i took these pictures! Ugh!
The weather is becoming crisper day by day and just seemed like the right time for soup. I tried a recipe from "Top Secret Restaurant Recipes" a copy of Chili's Chicken Enchilada Soup. It turned out great. Instead of adding the chicken to the pot, i made a soup bar and we added red peppers, shredded cheese, tortilla strips and the chicken separately since Ms. B doesn't eat anything with a face. It was de-lish. How was your day?

The Perfect Ending

Last night my sweet man and i, along with my sister and brother-in-law, enjoyed the perfect end to summer together at our favorite restaurant 'The Lark'. They had a delicious array of wines from champaign to dessert wines to sample. The appetizers were enough for a meal and Chef Jon worked his magic on the outdoor grill with bbq shrimp. Have to get that recipe! The garden looked like a little slice of Europe and we felt transported to another place as we enjoyed our time there with each other : ) How was your day?

Happy October

Hello October! This morning was a chilly one. Last night i had Ms. B pick the mini pumpkins that we've been growing in our garden. She came in with six little cuties. I think tomorrow for my Gaia Friday project i will glitter the day lights out of them. I have been collecting acorns on my morning walks and was thinking they would be awfully cute glitterfied too. I think they would look great displayed on the glass cake pedestal i picked up at the thrift store last week I'll share a picture when they're finished. This afternoon i stopped at an estate sale and found a few little treasures for the glass bottle project i have in mind. Shiny always makes me happy. How was your day?
